Bebe Rexha’s Tan In “Baby, I’m Jealous” Is Major Glow Goals

On Friday, October 9, Bebe Rexha debuted her new single, “Baby, I’m Jealous” featuring Doja Cat, and while the lyrics are all-too-relatable to anyone who has ever gotten green with envy by something they’ve spotted on social media, it’s Bebe’s tan she rocked in the music video by celebrity spray tan artist Chasidy McDowell that has me green with envy. I chatted with Chasidy exclusively about how she achieved Bebe’s glow and the key factors that go into creating a tan that translates well in a video — especially when there are so many factors like lighting, makeup, and outfit changes at play.

Bebe, who is a frequent client of Chasidy’s, requested a “Golden Glow” for the video shoot, “She wanted to achieve the look of a golden goddess,” the spray tan artist says. Reinforcing the idea that tans always look the best on the second day, the spray tan artist tanned Bebe two days before the video shoot. As for the solution used, Chasidy’s magic formula for the tan makes the case for just how magical mixing solutions can be. “I always customize the solution to my client's skin tone. For this video for Bebe, I made a mix of 7% DHA and 9% DHA.” Then, per Chasidy’s instructions, the songstress let the solution develop for eight hours before showering.

As all spray tan artists and avid-tanners know, 50% of the “success” of a spray tan lies in the aftercare. To properly maintain the tan after the first rinse, Chasidy advised Bebe to “avoid sweating, hot showers, baths, and tight clothes. No Dove soap and moisturize very well each day. Also extremely important: Don’t use any products with salicylic acid and glycolic acid,” as those products will cause the tan to fade faster.

As one can imagine, there is a level of planning that goes into curating a tan that translates well in a video. “I always make sure to discuss the outfits, lighting, and movement ahead of time so that I am able to adjust the color and tan appropriately to the body,” says Chasidy. If you’re a spray tan artist who is spraying a client for a special project such as a photo shoot, video shoot, or on stage appearance, it’s important to discuss things like lighting, makeup, and outfits before deciding on a solution — that way, you can choose a shade and base color that will work well with all other factors involved.

Along with Bebe’s tan, the rest of the video was also absolute fire. From Bebe’s new fiery red hair color (which she did at-home by herself using L’Oreal Paris’ Semi-Permanent Hair Color in “Bright Red”), to the outfits, to the star studded cast which includes Doja Cat, Charli D’Amelio, Avani, and Nikita Dragun. All elements of the song and video spark major joy and relatability at a time when the world can use it most.

As if a new hair color, dazzling tan, and brand new single and music video weren’t enough, Bebe also announced her new role as JBL Audio’s Global Brand Ambassador earlier this week. “After performing at last year’s JBL Fest in Las Vegas, I realized that this brand has the same passion and drive to elevate the music experience that I do,” said Bebe Rexha in a press release sent to The Tan Bible. “JBL headphones and speakers produce the kind of sound that fans all over the world enjoy, which makes this partnership a great opportunity to connect with such a devoted fanbase.” …Whew. What a week for the singer.

For those looking to achieve a glow up similar to Bebe’s at home, Chasidy suggests using Tan-Luxe products. “I love Super Glow for the face, it provides so many benefits and also a beautiful gradual glow. Then, I use the Body Drops for the body. So now you can go ahead and get your glow on and make someone else the jealous one.
