How long have you been in the industry? Melissa has been in the industry 11 years.
How did you get started in the industry? Melissa built her brand back in 2009 starting as a mobile spray tan artist. In 2014, she created & released her luxury product line, Perfect Glow Sunless, Melissa started as a one-woman show shipping orders out of her guest bedroom while holding a 9-5 job in the corporate sector. Since then, she has grown Perfect Glow into a worldwide luxury self-tanning brand and a five-star spray tan academy.
She mentors spray tan artists and her entrepreneurial story and expert spray tan tips have been featured in media outlets such as Forbes.com, The Knot, Skin Inc magazine, Huffington Post, and Voyage MIA as a Palm Beach-based inspirational story. She also has had the excitement of auditioning for the ABC hit show Shark Tank during Seasons 10 & 11.
What is the format of your training program? Online, virtual, and in-person spray tan training classes . We recently have done a webinar series on various topics and also hosted a Business Building Workshop in 2018 and an Airbrush Mastery Symposium in 2019.

Course pricing: Marketing courses start at $49 and spray tan education courses start at $179
What do your courses entail? Is it solely training how to spray tan or do you offer business guidance as well? We offer a full range of courses for the beginner starting their spray tan business, to the advanced spray tan artist who is looking to get an Elite Master Spray Tan Certification. Melissa offers business coaching that is customized for professionals of all levels.
What are your go-to solutions? Our own luxury line: Perfect Glow Sunless.
Do you have a specific solution you suggest beginners train with? We always recommend a lighter color in a low DHA level, such as our Cocoa Beach 8% DHA. When first starting out many beginners have a learning curve to find the best setting on their equipment. So until the beginner can figure out that “sweet spot” on their gun, many tend to overspray when starting out. Using a lower DHA can help prevent an unnatural result if too much solution is saturating their client.
How long are your courses? We have online courses that students can access for up to six months. One-day in-person trainings and our business coaching programs are catered to the spray tan professionals’ specific needs.
What is the most important lesson you hope your students learn during your course? Realizing it is not just about solution and technique. We are passionate about educating the client in all aspects of the client experience, troubleshooting issues, and many situations that can (and will) occur as they grow in their business

We see many spray tanners starting out trying to learn [how to spray tan] from YouTube or through Facebook groups that do not invest in any education programs. Unfortunately, we see many of them truly struggle and not understand client issues that affect their reputation. Learning the trade the proper way is a foundation for success.
Also, leaning that it is OK to not be available all of the time and to carve out boundaries with your clients. Self care is crucial [in order] to be a successful business owner. We even have a Lifestyle Facebook group for spray tan professionals. This is a support group that is NO spray tan talk, but instead focuses on a health and wellness lifestyle.
