Review: Isle of Paradise Express Ultra Dark Mousse

price: $29 at Sephora

type: a mousse with a violet-based color guide

product call-outs: vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free

key ingredients: Grapefruit peel oil to brighten the skin, coconut oil to hydrate, and avocado oil is used to help the skin absorb the product quickly, allowing for a faster dry-time.

texture: a thinner liquid-foam

dry time: Around 10 minutes, it dries and absorbs fast given its liquidy-foam texture.

scent: subtle and fresh

(hot) take on the tan: It delivers a rich, deep tan that is perfect for those that love a noticeably darker, yet natural-looking tan. The express ultra dark mousse is IOP’s darkest tan and is good for both dark-tan lovers and those just looking for a quick tan.

how we applied: Applied two layers all over the body (excluding the face) right before bed, let develop while sleeping, and then rinsed the color guide off in the morning. While I let the tan sit for about nine hours before rinsing, you can definitely achieve a dark tan in about four.

Isle of Paradise Express Ultra Dark Mousse

The fast-developing mousse delivers a deep tan within just one hour.

brand background: When UK-based celebrity spray tan artist Jules Von Hep launched Isle of Paradise in 2018, he introduced the first color-correcting tanners to the market. Each of IOP’s three shades (peach=light, green=medium, and violet=dark) are formulated to reduce redness, brighten skin, and even out skin tones — all while giving you an amazing glow. But Von Hep’s products don’t just give you a beautiful tan, instead they make you feel beautiful from the inside out. The tanning expert is also a body positivity champion, ray of sunshine, and someone you’d want as your BFF. Thanks to those traits, the co-founder has helped to create a brand that you’ll happily recommend to your besties, mom, grandma, and anyone who wants a little (or a lot) of glow.
