Review: Bondi Sands Ultra Dark Self Tanning Lotion

price: $24 at Ulta.

type: a gel-like lotion with a dark color guide.

product call-outs: vegan, sulfate-free, and cruelty-free

key ingredients: The hydrating tanner is made with a high level of DHA yet is also infused with aloe to to moisturize and make for a long-lasting tan.

texture: gel-like lotion

dry time: almost instantly

scent: fresh coconut

(hot) take on the tan: Like Bondi Sands’ Ultra Dark Aero Mousse and Bondi Sands’ Ultra Dark Mousse, I can’t recommend the Ultra Dark lotion enough. From the formula that dries almost instantly, to the rich tan with the beautiful skin finish. The lotion is great for developing a dark tan by itself, or topping up a dark tan that is a few days old. My preference is to develop an ultra dark tan with a mousse, and then use Bondi Sands Ultra Dark Lotion to top up the tan after three days or so.

how we applied: On the body: on clean, dry skin I used about a quarter-size drop of lotion on the tanning mitt and lathered each limb and body part. One quarter-size drop should cover each limb and area. I repeated the application for a second coat and then let the tan develop over eight hours. Skin is left with a rich, deep, brown tan. To top up a tan, I will apply one layer of tan on clean skin.

Bondi Sands Ultra Dark Tanning Lotion

brand background: Australian-based Bondi Sands has always been ahead of the (American) fake tanning world and they continue to do so with the launch of their Aero collection. The brand is inspired by the familiar beauty of Australia’s most popular beach, and that is translated into their products which give a tan so natural-looking you’ll look (and feel) like you just stepped off the beach.
