Review: Tan-Luxe The Water — Medium/Dark
price: $47 at Sephora
type: a clear self tanning water
product call-outs: cruelty- and toxin-free
key ingredients: The nourishing tanning water is packed with vitamins B, C, and E, raspberry seed oil, and aloe vera to create a tan that is hydrating and illuminating.
texture: an ultra-fine mist
dry time: less than 5 minutes
scent: a very subtle, light, clean scent — even as it’s developing.
(hot) take on the tan: Just as the name suggests, Tan-Luxe’s products feel like luxurious skincare and The Water is no exception. The clear solution mist delivers a vitamin-enriched natural glow, versus an ultra-dark tan. Skin is left about two shades darker, but it’s the luminous skin finish that sets this tanner apart from other darker tanners.
how we applied: On the body: on clean, dry skin I saturated the skin with two coats until there was a noticeable sheen and then blended using a tanning mitt. I got a full night’s sleep (AKA about eight hours), to let this tan develop. The Water gets extra points for not transferring onto our sheets, walls, and clothes.
On the face: The Water doubles as a self tanner and a makeup set spray thanks to its hydrating, noncomedogenic properties. I lathered on my serum, moisturizer, and makeup, then sealed in the look with the The Water that also added a subtle tan within a few hours.
brand background: Mark Elrick, the CEO and founder of Tan-Luxe, launched the brand as a way to put the customer in control of their glow. And while simplicity and customization don’t usually go hand in hand (especially in the tanning world) — they do when it comes to Tan-Luxe’s products. Each face and body tanner is clear, buildable, and packed with clean ingredients to deliver a beautiful glow. What’s more is that the brand’s chic and sleek packaging adds the prettiest touch to any shelfie.
