How did you get started in the spray tanning industry, and what inspired you to open your business?
“I spent 20 years in hospitality and concierge service, where I learned that the details of an experience matter. When I found my way into sunless tanning, I was drawn to the artistry, skin knowledge, the chemistry of it all, and the actual personal connection. I loved that a spray tan could change the way someone feels walking into a room. Like, I did that. RUMORED emerged from bringing all of those things together.”
Tell us about your business and the spray tanning services you offer.
“I’m the founder, educator and Master Sunless Artist behind RUMORED, based in Huntsville, Alabama. I offer private studio appointments and mobile services throughout North Alabama and Middle Tennessee, and I’m available nationwide for weddings, competitions, pageants, productions, hospitality partnerships, and special events.
My services include custom mixed spray tans, bridal, pageant, and event tanning, sunless contouring, Brazilian tape tanning, and professional competition tanning. Every appointment is customized to the client, the occasion and the final look.”
What makes your spray tans and client experience different from other spray tan businesses?
“My hospitality background plays a big role in the way I care for clients. RUMORED’s philosophy is serve over sell. I want every client to feel listened to, comfortable and genuinely cared for. Whether someone is booking a regular glow, stepping onstage for a competition, preparing for a wedding or other editorial events, I want them to feel like they’re in good hands, because they are.
Privacy is also extremely important to me. Some of my clients and projects I work with are protected by NDAs or require additional discretion. I never share identifying details, images, or information without permission. My clients’ privacy and trust are part of the service I provide, not an afterthought.”
How do you customize each spray tan to your client’s skin tone, desired color, and lifestyle?
“I start by asking what the client wants their color to look like and when they need it to look its best. Do they care more about the photos or IRL? From there, I consider their natural skin tone and undertone, existing pigmentation, skin condition, desired depth, development time, wardrobe, travel arrangements, photography, and lighting.
I also ask about their schedule and lifestyle so I can recommend something that works realistically for them—all the things.
The goal is never to put someone into a preset shade just because it’s popular. It’s about choosing the right formula, depth, and timing for that person and that specific moment.”
What products or spray tan solutions do you use, and what do you love about them?
“I’m trained across several professional solution systems, including Dolce Glow, Bronze Me Baby, ALT SUN UNFILTERED, AYU, and Liquid Sun Rayz.
I love having access to different professional lines because every client’s skin, schedule and desired result are different. Some clients need a soft, natural glow, while others need a deeper, more camera ready finish. Having that range allows me to choose or custom blend with the finished result in mind instead of trying to make one solution work for everyone.”
What types of occasions do your clients typically book you for?
“Clients book me for weddings, vacations, photoshoots, pageants, performances, productions, and special events. I work with athletes and teams as well, where the tan has to be planned around stage lighting, uniforms, movement, and a very specific event schedule. Some of my work is private or confidential, so I’m not always able to share the details, but I’m grateful to work with such a wide range of clients and occasions.
And sometimes the occasion is simply wanting to feel especially good in your own skin. That’s always a good enough reason.”
What’s your best advice for getting the most natural-looking, long-lasting spray tan?
“Plan ahead and be honest with your artist about your skin, products used, your routine, and your event timeline. Always, always let us know if you’ve had a sunburn the same year. Arrive properly prepped and free of any products, then follow the rinse and aftercare instructions for your specific custom mix. Moisture three times a day.”
