How did you get started in the spray tanning industry, and what inspired you to open Mirage Airbrush Tanning in Norman?
“I started spray tanning in 2023 because I felt like there was room for a more personalized and comfortable tanning experience in Norman. I wanted to create a space where every client felt welcome, taken care of, and never like they were receiving a one-size-fits-all service. Mirage was built around customization, inclusivity, and creating natural results that actually suit the individual.”
Tell us about your studio and the spray tanning services you offer throughout Norman and Oklahoma City.
“Mirage Airbrush Tanning is a luxury custom spray tanning studio located in Norman, Oklahoma, serving clients throughout Norman, Oklahoma City, and the surrounding metro. I offer fully customized airbrush tans, rapid and classic rinse options, clear solutions, face and body contour tanning, partial-body tans, bridal tanning, and mobile appointments by request. I also offer full-body red light therapy as an additional wellness and skin-focused service.”
What makes your spray tans and client experience different from other spray tan studios?
“The biggest difference is the level of customization and attention to detail. Every tan is applied completely by hand and tailored to the client rather than using the same formula or application on everyone. I also specialize in contour tanning, where I strategically enhance areas like the waist, legs, collarbones, face, and back while still keeping everything blended and natural. Beyond the tan itself, I wanted Mirage to feel comfortable and elevated from the moment someone walks in, especially for clients who may feel nervous or vulnerable during a spray tan appointment.”
How do you customize each spray tan to your client's skin tone, desired color, and lifestyle?
“Every appointment starts with a consultation. I look at the client’s natural skin tone and undertone, their desired depth, what they’re tanning for, their schedule, and how they typically care for their skin. From there, I choose or blend the solution that makes the most sense for them and adjust the application as needed. Someone wanting a subtle everyday glow is going to have a very different tan than a bride, athlete, or client preparing for photos, and I think the service should reflect that.”
What professional spray tan solutions and products do you use, and what do you love about them?
“I work with professional sunless brands including Unfiltered, Glazed, Sjolie, Mix, and Nuda. I love having access to multiple solution lines because it allows me to customize much more precisely instead of forcing every client into the same formula. I can choose between different undertones, development times, depths, and clear or bronzed options depending on the client’s skin and goals.”
What types of occasions do clients in Norman and Oklahoma City typically book spray tans for?
“I see clients for just about everything. Bridal tans are a huge part of what I do, along with weddings, vacations, sorority events, formals, graduations, game days, photoshoots, competitions, and special events. I also have plenty of clients who simply love having a consistent everyday glow. Not every tan needs an occasion.”
What's your best advice for getting the most natural-looking, long-lasting spray tan?
“Preparation and aftercare make such a difference. I recommend exfoliating and shaving at least 24 to 48 hours before the appointment, avoiding lotions, oils, deodorant, and perfume the day of, and arriving with clean, dry skin. After the tan, follow your recommended rinse time, moisturize daily, and avoid products or activities that aggressively exfoliate the skin. A great application is important, but how you care for your tan afterward is what helps keep the fade smooth and even.”
